    Hands on: Wii Impressions

Well, I finally got my hands on the Wii last friday. Allthough, I had to pull some strings to get into the booth without waiting four hours. I got to play two different games: Wario Ware and Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkachi 2.

    Wario Ware

The Wario game was just like all the others... Quick 5 second games that you can't seem to break yourself away from.  Now, in the Wii adaptation of this game you are instructed to hold the controller a specific way and perform a certain action in order to complete the level.  In the DS and Cube versions, it was a simple step of pushing buttions or moving the ds stylus. Warioware, if played continuously, seems that it would be a good exercise from doing squats, blanacing a "broom", and even slicing a barrel in half.  This game is a great party game and will keep people entertained for hours.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkachi 2

The new DBZ game was pretty entertaining.  The controls were mixed between buttion combonations, simple controller motion for punching, and specific hand motions to control your special abilities. One in particular was the good ol "kame hame ha." If you're familiar with the DBZ series you see that when Goku and others perform this move, their hands move a specific way. Well, on the Wii, you have to move your hands the same way!  While it takes some time to get used to the controls, so far, this game is looking to be very promising!

Sorry all... I couldn't get my hands on any of the popular Nintendo series games, but I do have video and I'll be posting it all tonight.

First Look: Metroid Prime 3 Corruption

    image

Next to Zelda, this was one of the games we were most excited to see at E3 and we can’t wait to get our hands on it! For now we’re stuck with video footage and pictures from Nintendo’s press information (tomorrow we’ll play.) The overall story for Metroid Prime 3 takes place at the Galactic Federation’s Sector Zero where, but of course, Space Pirates decide to attack and Samus has to step in to restart the base’s defense system.

imageDark Samus and the Space Pirates have expanded the lovely war throughout many planets and have placed Phazon Seeds on each of the planets.  As well as booting systems, Samus must travel to these planets gaining power-ups, info, and destroying the Phazon Seeds.

    The Wii Control functions are:

    • Players control Samus by moving with the Nunchuk controller and aiming with the pointer, allowing for a level of immersion unlike anything they have ever experienced. Through the eyes of Samus, players experience a quantum leap in first-person control as they wield the Wii Remote, the ultimate device for the first-person shooter genre.
    • Samus will employ well-known power-ups like the Grapple Beam and Morph Ball, as well as a bunch of new surprises, to help her survive her coming trials.
