    I miss E3

Man... I haven't been on spaces forever and a day!!!  Since shortly after last E3 no less.   I miss E3, this time last year I was running around scheduling interviews, finalizing travel and lodging details, and more. This year, I'm sitting at my desk at my day job and my game site has pretty much gone under.  Maybe I'll revamp it and start again.  I miss it, but it takes a lot of time, which I don't have now.

    GamerSurvival.com is looking for writers!

That’s right! This site that I’ve tried to do as much as I can with a small ammount of time is growing pretty fast and with some of the ideas I have, I need more help. So, starting today I’m searching for writers for Gamersurvival.com.  You don’t have to an english major to write here, but solid skills are a plus. Here’s the info:

    • This is not a high paying position! This site is growing, but it’s growing due to the content, not money. It will involve free games when they come in for review and than payment based off of content effects on the site
    • Must have a grasp on basic writing skills
    • Must be over 18
    • Must have at least one console in order to review games
    • Have a passion for gaming
    • IMPORTANT: Be able to have fun with what you’re writing.  I’m looking for people who can give quality information and still enjoy writing it. (Even some humor in the writing is a plus.)

So, if you think you can meet those criteria please send an email to admin@gamersurvival.com with 3 sample writings and a little background of your gaming experience.  If you don’t have any, pick some of the recent game news and write some. (Doesn’t have to be something I’ve written about.)

    Hands on: Wii Impressions

Well, I finally got my hands on the Wii last friday. Allthough, I had to pull some strings to get into the booth without waiting four hours. I got to play two different games: Wario Ware and Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkachi 2.

    Wario Ware

The Wario game was just like all the others... Quick 5 second games that you can't seem to break yourself away from.  Now, in the Wii adaptation of this game you are instructed to hold the controller a specific way and perform a certain action in order to complete the level.  In the DS and Cube versions, it was a simple step of pushing buttions or moving the ds stylus. Warioware, if played continuously, seems that it would be a good exercise from doing squats, blanacing a "broom", and even slicing a barrel in half.  This game is a great party game and will keep people entertained for hours.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkachi 2

The new DBZ game was pretty entertaining.  The controls were mixed between buttion combonations, simple controller motion for punching, and specific hand motions to control your special abilities. One in particular was the good ol "kame hame ha." If you're familiar with the DBZ series you see that when Goku and others perform this move, their hands move a specific way. Well, on the Wii, you have to move your hands the same way!  While it takes some time to get used to the controls, so far, this game is looking to be very promising!

Sorry all... I couldn't get my hands on any of the popular Nintendo series games, but I do have video and I'll be posting it all tonight.

    Wow!

Well.... I'm back in Virginia again *sigh* I already miss running around for game news, hanging out at the blogger bus, and all the other E3 fun.  So now what's next? Well, I have to do some work for my main job and after that I'll be posting some more E3 news that I never got to post. First Look: Stranglehold

    image

This upcoming winter we all can expect to see this lovely new game named Stranglehold to be available on retail shelves for the PS3, 360, and the PC.  Stranglehold takes place after John Woo’s moive, Hard Boiled, and is played from a 3rd person perspective as you fight and shoot your way through crime bosses and their lackies because they took your family.  Stanglehold is essentially a John Woo directed movie featuring Chow Yun-Fat and other Hollywood Talent. With fully interactive environments including be able to run up railings, swing on chandeliers, and jump onto other moving objects, this game promises to keep things interesting. Before I let you look at the rest of the pretty pictures I want to give you one more interesting fact about this game… It’s using a modified version of Unreal 3.0 engine. Enough said!

    Gears of War Hands On

    image

Wow! Today we got our hands on Gears of War for the Xbox 360 and it was amazing.  When you watch all the game footage you can see that the game is beautiful, but what you don’t get a good grasp for is the actual gameplay.  We walked into a little room of 2 circular tables loaded with Xbox 360’s displaying playable GOW mutiplayer and a special faceplate.  We sit down, get a brief explanation of controls and we got started.  The control scheme for GOW is very intresting, with the biggest addition to a FPS being a cover/dodge button.  You can take cover behind almost any object or wall.  With several differen weapons to use in the demo it made for an interesting experience.  We had Machine gun/chain saw, a type of gernade launcher, and a sniper rifle.  We were quite fond of running up to people and chainsawing them and sidewalk stomping them. Sidewalk stomp is when players take enough damage to be stunned and you walk up and press a certain button you stomp them into the sidewalk.  We were highly impressed by the beauty of this game and the gameplay and feel that this will beat expectations and grow to the hype of “the next Halo.”

Day One: E3 Show Floor, Press Conf. Reactions, More...

Well everybody...  First day of E3 is practically done and I'm sitting here in our lovely Xbox Blogger Bus (borrowing some laptop because my photographer took mine home with him.)  This morning I got early access to the show floor and got my hands on Heavenly Sword for the PS3.  The easiest way to describe this game is like God of War with better graphics and more moves.  I had some time to interview the head developer and I will be posting that video later on tonight.

Also, today, I got my hands on F.E.A.R. for Xbox 360 and it looks awesome, but during that demo it was missing the best parts... Creepy cut scenes with crazy bloody ghost girl! What kind of demo is that?  Most of you have probably seen the trailer for this game and it looks just as good as the PC version.

    Press Conf. Reaction

    Nintendo
Nintendo made some really great demonstrations and announcements including: 2 different Twilight Princess versions (Wii, Cube), speaker inside of the remote controller, 27 playable Wii games on E3 show floor, and announcements of some killer games like Super Mario Universe and Starfox DS.  This press conference stands out as the most innovative announcements/features of the year.

    Sony
Um....  Yeah... We're going to need you to go ahead and lower your prices for launch...  yeah... Oh and um.. Can you go ahead and inform Nintendo that they got ripped off and should get a creative fee? Thanks....

Sony has stunned the gaming community.. In a bad way (from what I've seen so far.)  They have announced two overly priced versions of the PS3, announced "motion sensors" in the controller, removed the rumble feature, and have pretty much just ripped off everyone else.. I'm disappointed in them.

    Microsoft
MS made some great announcements this year.  Big one... HALO 3!!!!!  What else? They did have more as much as Halo 3 made the most impression.  MS confirmed holiday release of the HD DVD drive, Announced "Live Anywhere,"  Great Gears of War trailer, and much much more.

    Overall
MS and Nintendo each have their strong points. Sony... Well.. yeah.... I agree when Trixie says "$599? WTF?"

Pardon the lack of updates today.. We've spent most of the day getting press kits and seeing as much of the floor as possible so we could update the rest of the week.  Check back for the PS3 Interview and game previews.

First Look: Splinter Cell Double Agent

    image

I Pride myself on being able to do stuff… One of those things is going to E3, the other, somehow tearing myself away from the show floor to bring you information regarding games.  Here is a great look at Splinter Cell Double Agent. (Notice we didn't mention harrassing Trixie?)

This go round, as the oh so stealthy Sam Fisher, you have to infiltrate a high profile terrorist group and break it down from inside.  The challenge is being able to keep your cover by not killing too many terroists as well as not hesitating in different situations. Key features listed below:

    image

    • Double agent gameplay and branching storyline: Play both sides and decide between opposing NSA and terrorists objectives. You choose who’s priorities to support, and who’s to undermine. Your actions affect the story and gameplay, leading to shockingly different endings.
    • Upgradeable weapons and gadgets:  As you progress get access to upgraded prototype gadgets and weapons, like improved night vision, based on your choices and covert skills.
    • Authentic double agent tactics: Use realistic tactics, based on testimonies of actual undercover agents, to sabotage the enemies’ plans.
    • Don’t blow your cover: Steal, destroy, kill, and evade the authorities. Do whatever it takes to make your mark and gain their trust.
    • A world of International espionage: Go from Shanghai and Cozumel to America itself, where New York City and Los Angeles are threatened by the terrorists’ agenda of destruction.
    • All-new extreme gameplay situations:  Conduct your missions underwater amidst churning ice floes, in a blinding sandstorm, or even sheathed in dust and smoke.
    • Multiplayer:  The multiplayer modes are back with new innovations and exclusives for each platform. Get recruited and earn rank upgrades, and sabotage and spy for your team.

First Look: Metroid Prime 3 Corruption

    image

Next to Zelda, this was one of the games we were most excited to see at E3 and we can’t wait to get our hands on it! For now we’re stuck with video footage and pictures from Nintendo’s press information (tomorrow we’ll play.) The overall story for Metroid Prime 3 takes place at the Galactic Federation’s Sector Zero where, but of course, Space Pirates decide to attack and Samus has to step in to restart the base’s defense system.

imageDark Samus and the Space Pirates have expanded the lovely war throughout many planets and have placed Phazon Seeds on each of the planets.  As well as booting systems, Samus must travel to these planets gaining power-ups, info, and destroying the Phazon Seeds.

    The Wii Control functions are:

    • Players control Samus by moving with the Nunchuk controller and aiming with the pointer, allowing for a level of immersion unlike anything they have ever experienced. Through the eyes of Samus, players experience a quantum leap in first-person control as they wield the Wii Remote, the ultimate device for the first-person shooter genre.
    • Samus will employ well-known power-ups like the Grapple Beam and Morph Ball, as well as a bunch of new surprises, to help her survive her coming trials.
